The Kitchen Work Triangle

The Kitchen Work Triangle

The kitchen is the heart of the home, but without a functional layout, it can become a source of daily frustration. The 'Work Triangle' is a time-tested design principle that ensures efficiency.

What is the Triangle?

The triangle connects the three main work centers: the sink, the cooktop, and the refrigerator. For maximum efficiency, the sum of the three sides should be between 4 and 7.9 meters.

Avoiding Traffic Jams

Ensure that the main traffic path through the kitchen doesn't cross through the triangle. You don't want children running through the area while you're carrying a pot of boiling water from the stove to the sink.

Island Bench Integration

If you're including an island, consider placing either the sink or the cooktop there. This allows you to face your guests or family while preparing meals, making the kitchen a more social space.

Expert Tip

Always consult with your builder early in the design phase. Their practical knowledge can save you time and money by avoiding designs that are difficult or expensive to build.
