Thermal Performance Matters

Thermal Performance Matters

A high-performance home stays warm in winter and cool in summer with minimal energy use. The key is in the 'building envelope'—the layers that separate you from the outside world.

Insulation is Key

Walls, roofs, and even floors should be insulated. In Sydney, we recommend R2.5 batts for external walls and R5.0 or higher for the roof. Don't forget internal walls around bathrooms and media rooms for sound insulation too.

Sealing the Gaps

You can have the best insulation in the world, but if your home is drafty, it won't work. Modern construction focuses on airtightness—using high-quality seals on doors and windows to stop conditioned air from escaping.

Double Glazing

Windows are the 'holes' in your insulation. Double glazing traps a layer of air or gas between two panes of glass, reducing heat transfer by up to 50% compared to single-pane glass.

Expert Tip

Always consult with your builder early in the design phase. Their practical knowledge can save you time and money by avoiding designs that are difficult or expensive to build.
